AFPeX  (The Assisted Flight Plan Exchange)

The AFPeX  system is an electronic means of sending a fully automated flight plan.

To use the AFPeX system it is necessary to apply for an account (free) at      https://ts3.flightplanningonline.co.uk/

The account will take about 10 days (apparently!!)  to set up. The example shows what a form should look like when completed. The layout is, very similar to the Fax Flight plan. The big difference is the Addressees header. NOTE faxing a flight plan is now actively discouraged. ie they get a bit bitter and twisted if you try.

If the trip is for one day only, I recommend a return Flight Plan be sent at the same time,  Remember is is possible to delay a, Flight Plan by Phone (0044 8456 010 484 but only before the allotted time) but it is not possible to go before the plan time, unless a  new plan is submitted.

The Flight plan allows departure 30 min before and 30 min after the submitted time, there after a new plan is required.

When Returning AFPeX will not willingly activate your flight plan by phone as you are in a foreign country, however they will in an emergency.

REM   If you land in France at an unmaned airfield, TEL  0033810437837 to cancel Flight Plan. Take this number with you.

So for a trip to Alderney..

1) From the AFPeX home page go to menu and  > ATS > FPL

2) Enter ITEM 8 first as "V" this sets the ADDRESSEES  up for VFR flight.

3) Now go to ITEM 7 and work down through the page as shown on the example. DO NOT fill in "SSR".

What should happen now. as data is inserted the address boxes above will be filled in as shown.

The addressees line up shows the following information, depart Old Sarum, Enter London FIR, Enter French FIR (Channel Islands are in French FIR space) Arrive Alderney + any alternatives.(they may not be in that order)

NOTE..... When filling in the form as a new Flight Plan, the "X"will stay in the relevant box, untill you click onto another box OR insert the right information.

To save your plan use the store command under file. This F/P can now be retrieved at any time and be used as a template.

The advantage of this APFeX  is the speed the flight plan clears the system, we are told 10 minutes.

The down side of this program is conformation of the Flight Plan, at best its confusing, good idea is to call the Tower ASAP at Sarum as they will have recieved the plan and will be able to say if there is a problem -- before the departure!

An account can add as many flight plans as required and can operate an account anywhere within the euro zone.

The AFPeX  F/P must be activated from the ground, ie the tower or on route ground station.
