UK National Private Pilot Licence – Exemptions for Guernsey Alderney and Jersey Airspace

The process for you the pilot

Take off must be 30 min either side of the flight plan time. when you leave the circuit the tower will confirm your flight plan is open.

At this time change frequency to Bournmouth, we try to stay with Bournmouth till we are about 20 miles out over the sea.

We now call Jersey Zone for basic information, they may come back and give you SVFR or they may not, this means you may need to ask for it as you approach their zone. Normally they will contact you as you approach the zone.

As your aircraft approaches the zone edge (Class "A" Airspace) you will be transferred to Gernsey, and  maybe asked to confirm when the island of Alderney is in sight, you should at this time be in or close to their airspace (Class "D" Airspace). They will then tell you to transfer to Alderney tower. At all times when under ATC control you do exactly as you are told, unless you consider it to be dangerous, then you must tell them.

Routing to Alderney may vary, it is standard practice to enter via eastern end, however if their not to busy an Ortac approach is possible. They will tell you or you may ask on initial contact with Jersey Zone.

You will need to take to the Channel Islands-
